Dr. Jart Water Drop Moisturizer

I received a sample of Dr. Jart Water Drop Moisturizer in my Birchbox July 2016. It is a generous 1.7 oz tube. I was finishing up my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel which was part of Vacation Beauty Buys and had to wait to try this. The Clinique is a regular part of my A.M. Skincare Routine and is possibly my favorite moisturizer ever.

I was excited to get this because I am fascinated by the whole k-beauty craze. So much so that I actually tried a Month of Asian Skincare to see what all the fuss/buzz was about. I did not use the Dr. Jart Water Drop during that month. I stuck with samples rather than opening a large tube.

The Dr. Jart website provides the following information on this moisturizer:

What it is:
A hydration-replenishing formula to provide long-lasting moisture and brighten dull-looking skin.

Solutions for:
– Dryness
– Dullness and uneven texture
– Uneven skintone

If you want to know more…
This lightweight, refreshing moisturizer features a special emulsion system with droplets packed full of brightening and nourishing ingredients. The innovative formula bursts into tiny water droplets when applied—providing instant hydration and brightening dull, lackluster skin. Great for all skin types, it relieves dry, sensitive skin, revitalizes, and prevents visible signs of aging with concentrated antioxidants for a healthier-looking complexion.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

-Apply to clean skin twice a day, morning and night.
-Gently rub the moisturizer to skin, and pat the remaining liquid droplets into skin to absorb.

Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid: Moisturizes.

I’m not sure why they are so cagey about the ingredients. I don’t think this is 100% Hyaluronic Acid because of the texture/consistency which I will get to on in the review. If it is pure HA there are cheaper alternatives out there for sure. The full size 3.3 oz tube sells for $33. That makes it more expensive than my beloved Clinique DDM Gel.

Before I share my experience let me tell you about my skin. I have “mature skin” that is basically normal. It is not terribly sensitive but now and again a product will cause breakouts. My skin concerns are dark pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles.

I use the Dr. Jart Water Drop as my morning moisturizer. In the morning I am looking for a lightweight moisturizer that hydrates without making my skin look greasy. Even at my age I still battle shine by mid-day during warm weather.

The consistency of the Water Drop moisturizer is different from the typical moisturize. It comes out thick, like coconut oil. Once it touches skin it turns into a water-like consistency. It feels cooling on the skin and just like rubbing water on my skin. It is, without a doubt, the most unique texture I have ever used. It also has a fresh scent that I really like. It is very mild and does not last.

It is quickly absorbed by the skin and the wet feeling dries. Since I use this as my morning moisturizer, I follow it with my sunscreen. This works very nicely with my sunscreen. It applies over it with no pilling or patchiness. My makeup applies over it all flawlessly.

I like this moisturizer a lot. It hydrates my skin without making it feel greasy. It is super lightweight on my skin. It works well with my other morning skincare and makeup. As much as I like Dr. Jart Water Drop Moisturizer I still like my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel better. I may try this again some day but I will go back to my Clinique when I finish this tube.

Have you tried this moisturizer? Did you like it? What is your favorite lightweight daytime moisturizer?
