e.l.f. Hydrating Gel Melting Cleanser

I have been doing a Nighttime Double Cleanse Routine for a while now. I started with makeup remover cloths. Prior to starting the e.l.f. Hydrating Gel Melting Cleanser I was using Yes to Coconut Ulta Hydrating Melting Cleanser. I have also used oil cleansers before purchasing the e.l.f. Gel Cleanser.  It comes in a pretty green frosted glass pot with a matching green screw on top. I purchased this as part of my after Christmas e.l.f. Haul.  A 1.4 oz/40 g. jar costs $10. That is pretty pricey compared to other makeup removing balms.

This gentle, hydrating formula melts on contact transforming from a gel to creamy oil that helps dissolve makeup and cleanse the skin. Formulated with Purified Water and infused with nourishing Argan Oil, Rose Extracts, and Rose Seed Oils to help moisturize the skin. It’s also rich in antioxidant Vitamin C.

How to Use

  • Using clean, dry hands, gently massage cleanser into the skin.
  • Activate with warm water and massage face for 10 – 15 seconds.
  • Rinse clean and pat dry.

Ingredients: Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Water (Aqua), Sucrose Stearate, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Rosa Moschata Seed Oil, Rosa Rubiginosa Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Ascorbyl Palmitate.

While the cleanser looks like Vaseline in the jar it dissolves almost on contact. It is very easy to massage into the skin and dissolves quickly. It also totally dissolves all my makeup including eye makeup with waterproof liner. I don’t use waterproof mascara. After I have massaged it into my skin, I add some water and massage some more. Then I rinse it off with a wet Wonder Cloth.

This cleanser has no scent. It cleanses my skin thoroughly. It rinses clean with no greasy film.  My skin just feels clean and soft. I follow this with a non-foaming cleanser to ensure my face is totally clean and ready to absorb my skincare products.

The e.l.f. Hydrating Gel Melting Cleanser is a very good cleanser. It thoroughly removes all my makeup and rinses clean. It has no scent which is great if you have sensitive skin. I don’t but I know that many people prefer skincare products with no scent.

My issue is the cost. $10 for 1.7 oz. is a bit much. This jar looks like it will last me less than 2 months. I recently ordered the Banila Clean It Zero Sherbert Cleanser on Amazon to try when I finish this one. It was a 3.4 oz jar for $17.50. So, twice as much at a lower cost per ounce. The Banila cleanser is supposed to be really good.

Do you do a double cleanse? What products do you use? Have you tried any that I mentioned? What is your favorite?

  1. I will be very interested to see how you like the Banila Clean It Zero Sherbert Cleanser. I haven’t tried it yet but have been looking at it for a while.

      1. If I am not wearing any makeup would this still be something to use or would it be too strong for just cleansing a non-makeup face?

  2. It isn’t so much a cleanser as it is a makeup and gunk melter. It melts makeup, sunscreen, oil, and grime. This allows your cleanser to fully clean your face so that your skincare products are absorbed.

      1. I really love Purity Made Simple by Philosophy. It is pricey but you don’t need much. A 16 oz bottle lasted me for almost a year. If you keep your eyes open you can pick it up on sale. I have normal skin and it works well for me. It is a non-foaming cleanser that cleans deeply without drying. It is my nighttime cleanser.
