P.M. Skincare Routine Fall

My nighttime skincare routine is a bit more complicated than my A.M. Skincare Routine. I like to try all kinds of new products and with all my monthly subscriptions I get a lot of samples each month. I alternate products so  I use different products every other night. The products I choose are influenced by my use of Tretinoin (Retin A) . I have to be careful with ingredients that might interact badly with the tretinoin and use very hydrating products.

My skin in the fall is normal with occasional dryness. I do not have particularly sensitive skin nor do I get breakouts very much anymore. I am 52 years old and postmenopausal. My goal in my skincare routine is to hydrate and use anti-aging ingredients. I don’t want to look  even 1 day older than I have to. In the fall I switch to more hydrating products than I use in spring and summer.

I start my evening routine with a Double Cleanse that removes my makeup and then washes off all the residue. I am currently removing my makeup with a DIY micellar water and a microfiber cloth. This removes almost all my makeup, including mascara and eyeliner with a minimum of tugging and scrubbing.

Once I have removed most of my makeup I wash my face with purity made simple by philosophy – our award-winning cleanser is loved by all for its multitasking, 3-in-1 approach to cleansing. gently cleanses and melts away face and eye makeup in one simple step, while toning and lightly hydrating. skin is left feeling perfectly clean, comfortable and balanced.  I got a 12 oz. bottle of this last year for $15 on Black Friday. I had read so many good reviews and the price was great. I love this cleanser and included it in my 5 Faves in August. It is gentle enough to use on my eyes without burning or stinging. It is expensive but you can find it on sale this time of year and Philosophy has 50% off sales a few times a year. I was able to get the huge 32 oz bottle this spring for about $25. The 12 oz has lasted about a year with almost daily use. It is a gentle, effective cleanser and I see why it is a cult favorite.

At least 3-4 nights per week I use my Clarisonic Mia 2 – Delicate speed for fragile skin. Universal speed for normal skin. Loosens and removes dirt and oil. Waterproof and rechargeable. It has a timer that lets you know when to move from one area of your face to the next. You can buy different brush heads to meet the unique needs of your skin. I am currently using the normal brush but will likely change to the  extra gentle luxe brush head soon. This can be drying to my skin in the winter and the extra gentle brush head helps.I am using it 3-4 nights per week. Last winter it dried my skin out when I used it nightly.

After thoroughly cleansing my face I use Dickinson’s Enhanced Witch Hazel Hydrating Toner. This is a recent addition to my routine and I like it. On the nights I don’t use tretinoin, I apply Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. This gentle, non-abrasive, leave-on exfoliant rapidly unclogs pores, diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, and improves skin tone for unbelievably smooth, radiant, firmer-looking skin. This is a sample size I got in some beauty subscription box this summer. I can’t use it on the same night as the tretinoin because they don’t interact well together. I honestly don’t see that this has done much for my skin and I won’t repurchase once I finish this sample.

Every other night I apply Tretinoin after allowing my face time to dry. I have slowly worked up to every other night and you can read about the adjustments I have made here. I wait 2 hours for it to absorb before using my serums and moisturizers. I use a serum and am currently using Lierac Mesolift Serum – A concentrate of radiance containing 15% mesolift cocktail, enriched with blood-orange extract, for an immediate and universal “pick-me-up” effect: all skin types, all ages, all seasons. Hydrates, tonifies, increases radiance & even out the complexion. I received this sample sized tube in an Amazon luxury beauty box. It is pricey at $60 for a 1 oz. bottle. I have been using this for a month now and I don’t see anything special about it. I use the same serum every night.

I use RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream every night. This non-greasy moisturizing cream is especially formulated for use around the delicate eye area. It evens out the look of dark circles and helps to reduce the look of puffiness in four weeks, and it visibly reduces the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and crow’s feet in 12 weeks. I have been using this tube for a few months now. It is an ok eye cream I don’t see where it has done anything special for my undereye area. I will try something different when I finish this.

Before I put on my moisturizer I spritz on Olivia Care Organic Rose Water Face and Body Mist – Organic Rose Water is made from the intensely perfumed and many-petaled damask rose. Carefully selecting the best roses cultivated at high altitude plantations in the Himalayas, our rose water is sensitively produced from start to finish. Full of antioxidants and vitamins, rose water will instantly give dull skin a pick me up, and brighten up your mood! It can bring benefits to all skin types, it can help soothe and cool sensitive and irritated skin, balance and cleanse oily skin, help prevent aging by softening and toning mature skin, revitalize and add beautiful glow to the normal skin. Rose water also has natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties. It’s multipurpose use makes this a definite addition to any beauty routine! Suggested Uses: Refrigerate and mist throughout the day to freshen up skin and makeup. Use as toner or makeup remover by applying directly on skin or cotton pad. I spray this on so that my face is damp when I apply my moisturizer. It is more effective when applied to damp skin.  The rose water has other benefits as well. This was part of a T.J. Maxx Haul and one of my 5 Faves October 2016.

But then my nighttime routine gets a bit complicated. I have 2 different sets of products that I alternate. One night I use Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream – Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is the #1 selling anti-aging moisturizer. Its formula with an advanced Amino-Peptide Complex penetrates deep into the skin’s surface to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Micro-Sculpting Cream is formulated with hyaluronic acid, amino-peptides and Vitamin B3. It hydrates to help plump cells from within the skin’s surface. The luxurious-feeling moisturizer immediately softens the look of fine lines and wrinkles, while firming the look of skin with plumping hydration. Over time, it reduces the look of 10 years of wrinkles in just 4 weeks—Micro-sculpting Cream renews from within, plumping surface cells for a dramatic transformation without the need for fillers. I have been using this for several months now and I really like it. I will repurchase when I finish it. It has niacinamides and hyaluronic acid so you know it has anti-aging benefits and hydrates.

On the other night, I use  Previse Hydromilk Hyaluronic Lotion. HydroMilk is the ideal lotion replacement for natural hydration. Oxidation and dehydration are the two major causes of wrinkles and signs of aging. Potent antioxidants, rich botanical extracts, and hyaluronic acid are your skin’s new best friend. I got a full size tube of this in a Birchbox and I love it! That tube has lasted me months and I will be sad to finish it. It is very hydrating but light at the same time. It does not feel heavy or greasy at all. However, it is $48 a tube so I may look around to see if I can find a lower cost alternative.

On the nights I use the Olay Micro-sculpting cream I use Argan Essence Facial RoseHip and Jojoba Oil. This astonishing Facial RoseHip Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Sweet Almond Oil is packed with antioxidants and vitamins to help reduce the appearance of dark spots, fine lines & wrinkles, boost skin’s moisture, and improve overall complexion. I just recently started using this. I got it this summer in  Vacation Beauty Buys. My face was starting to look a little dry and I am getting ready to go to daily use of my tretinoin. I haven’t been using it long enough to know if it is doing anything for my face. It is not heavy or greasy feeling at all. It seems to sink right into my skin.

Korres Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial – A brightening night cream infused with wild rose oil that evens out skin tone, repairs fine lines, moisturizes, heals, and softens skin. This face cream with vitamin C also helps minimize the appearance of skin discolorations and black spots. More than a mask, more than a night cream, this overnight facial-in-a-jar delivers brighter skin by morning. I received this is a Sephora Play bag several months back and it is what I use after Previse Hydromilk. It smells amazing and leaves my skin so soft feeling the next morning. I love this and it was one of my 5 Faves November 2016.

In addition to these products I do use a mask 3 times a week. In the fall I use more sheet masks and hydrating masks. I do have an AHA mask that I try to use weekly. I enjoy masks and feel like they are an important part of a good skincare program.

So far this routine is working for my fall skin. It is helping keep dryness at bay and I am having almost no flaking from the tretinoin. My face feels soft and smooth and I have had no irritations or breakouts. I will make adjustments as winter sets in and I increase my tretinoin use.

Do you make seasonal adjustments to your skincare? Do you have any suggestions for me? Do you use any of the products I am using?
